A little too secure, maybe! It keeps timing out faster than you can think. App works well, but needs a few feature changes to make it super-usable. As it is designed now, you have to use an out-of-band method to agree to chat in advance -- you cant simply leave the app open waiting for incoming chats. This is the apps HUGE disadvantage. While, yes, it makes it HIGHLY secure, it also makes it difficult to use. There SERIOUSLY needs to be an option to adjust how long to stay open in the background, including "forever". This would make the communications over the air secure (what most people are really concerned about!) while leaving the phone potentially a target. I use the app a lot for secure communications when I cant get a VPN to be stable, but a few tweaks would make the app A LOT more usable and it would become my sole XMPP app.

Much better than a few "secure" apps that demand access to your full contact list just to function. What is truly private with that? Want to love this app. Unfortunately it only supports some very outdated messaging platforms. No WhatsApp. No FaceBook Messenger. No Hangouts. No AOL. No AIM. No Yahoo Messenger. Limits the sheer number of people possible to get the ability to message. This app could be the best on the AppStore, but because of few users, and a complex setup that no average grandmother will ever use. Please simplify the setup, and bring access to services everyone uses.

This is a good app. The security seems solid from an external examination. The features continue to increase; the new on-boarding process is a big improvement when setting up new accounts and even for creating brand new ones. My server connections have been reliable (tested 3 simultaneously). The UI is missing some basics, such as setting your status and clearly seeing a list of your contacts and their statuses. Hopefully these things will improve over time. I highly recommend this app for any Jabber/XMPP users out there. P.S. - For those complaining about the short background period/warning: The developer HAS NO CHOICE. This limitation is imposed by Apple and there is nothing he can do about it. Latest version really simplifies creating an account. I really appreciate the developers continuing to make this app better and easier to use for beginners. Keep up the good work. The one thing this private encrypted messaging app has going for it over almost all others is that it is, to my knowledge, 100% open source, so anyone can verify its security and ensure no spying. Plus it uses a well known and proven encryption scheme in OTR. Because of this I would trust it more than whatsapp, viber, Threema, and Telegram when it comes to private chats.
