Otr doesnt work
Otr doesnt work
Easy to use. Allows for OTR. Used it for years.
After gather some info on this app, I decided to give it a try instead of always secured signal. Wondering how the calls would sound considering different protocols being used.
Good

XMPP/Jabber with it without security
Great. Free. Private. The trifecta.
Great xmpp/jabber app. Only complaint is that someone’s notifications aren’t sent until the app is loaded. Please work on the background refresh so notifications always come in when a new message arrives
Messages from one of my contacts completely fails to receive. Nothing in my chat history, no notification. He uses an iPhone and I'm on a MacBook Air M1. Inbound messages from ANY contact fail to show up when I resume if my laptop is off/sleeping. I never had this problem with Gajim (Windows & Linux) or ChatSecure (Android). I'm having *some* of the same problems with Monal, but not as consistently. I'm convinced that there are no XMPP apps for Mac that actually work 100%.
its ok but im unable to send picture messages or gifs through this app only smileys for some odd reason also android notifications come through phones as alerts but not iphones unless the person is running the app I guess it requires a Valid TLS certificate im hosting my own prosody server that has a self signed certificate because I want to keep everything free and its only used for family and friends I also have the cloud_notify module in prosody enabled all android users get notifications without running any app they choose this is exactly why I hate apple too many restrictions I tried upgrading prosody to the latest to see if that would work but it fails im currently running mojave and cant upgrade my mac I used homebrew to install prosody but I got version 0.9.14 and when I try to update it says im already up to date the app works great if iphone users could get push notifications and could send pictures messages the odd thing is I tried swift im and it allows me to send picture messages from there and they can receive them in chat secure
Although signal has good encryption technology, it doesn’t have much technology for anonymize yourself behind it like chat secures XXMP + Omemo technology. The encryption algorithms in this app are just as strong if not stronger than Signals, and it DOES not require a phone number like signal. Both are great depending on your use case, but I believe chat secure is better if you want to stay safe from the NSA or from prying eyes. Its great for reporters, high security situations/people, system admins who need to protect their assets or identities from hackers or just anyone in general who wants to stay safer and more anonymous on the internet. In a day where mass surveillance is a real thing, this app is important for privacy of good honest people. This app is simple to use, very stable, and developed by well respected developers. It is not full of features, like telegram, but that is because it’s focus is on security and anonymity. Less code=less flaws. So if that’s what you are looking for, go ahead and ditch the signal app, and the spy driven wikr app, and the crap security telegram app, and start using this well developed, hardened chat app that implements algorithms and technologies much older and more refined/tested than the signal app. Thanks for chat secure!
Pls me use!
Can’t create a user or see any room or message any person. Great app
Cannot create an account. Is this supposedly free to use? If not there is no way to know you have to pay before you can use and evaluate if this service works. Very dissapointed
What a great app so good!!
Unreliable. Otherwise good app. Please patch it. Stop the bit rot.
needs to be updated Bug fixes
All this does is freeze and crash.
I needed an XMPP client and this passes. Only 3 stars because it doubles all of the conversation history in my MUCs.
Need help setting it up need a server can you send me directions or video
приложение вылетает при попытке открыть настройки. 11 promax, ios 13.2.3
Always looking for exciting new apps
Before I could even use the app, the only reason I chose to do so disappeared. 🤨 Please bring back support for Tor, thank you.
Unfortunately I’m not really much of an advanced tech in any ay shape or form and find a lot of advanced tech mumbo-jumbo painfully confusing even though I find many types of advanced technology somewhat interesting as well as I usually have or try to use it the best and most up to date stuff when I can regardless of if I even know what I’m doing! Lol! With that being said, when I don’t necessarily understand something all that well I try to at least learn where or what the reputable resources are and The Tor Project is one regarding privacy/security so the fact that they support ChatSecure and list it on their site with direct links to download it means it should be pretty good for secure chatting purposes so once I begin getting more familiar with it I can add more about it!
They should have been focused on improving TOR implementation and support it was one niche feature that distinguished this app from the rest now they dropped it ... they never really got it right they probably never really cared it was always buggy I don’t see any reason now financially support this app
My app constantly freezes and only some messages actually go through. Am sad bc this is the only OMEMO client on ios as far as I know ): loved the app before the new update despite small bugs here n there
Ghostiery and similar programs have been deliberately barred by Apple - which loves to play both sides of the datatheft crisis, claiming (and refusing to discuss taken) that it has really good encryption, while not allowing (as required under the Microsoft Internet Explorer decision) the ability to run with Tor or a full version of Firefox, while erasing its own browser from the system. While Apple execs know there are companies that will crack open an i-phone for anyone with the $$s, it plays the We are So Honest game by announcing it will not do the job requested by ignorant police organizations. So, here’s a program that claims not to collect anything much, and only gives what’s collected to folks who say real nice that they won’t let things escape, telling you to use a leaky product on an iPhone using a program unavailable because it doesn’t want Real Firefox or Tor available. So claims of security just cannot be true. I wish I were wrong about this, but what we need is some way to force Apple into allowing full PGP, if not RSA to run on its hand-held platforms.
stuck on spinning wheel😔
This app is always giving some type of issue never works Properly
Background refresh is on as well as notifications but not able to view any notifications unless I open the app
Too many bugs. Disappointing.
It was excellent while it still worked, but now it silently fails to send messages through my local ejabberd. It took me a few days to realize it wasn't working.
The app is totally awesome it lets me chat and do business in private best thing ever thanks
I’ve been using this app for work for about 6 months and it has never works properly. IE crashes, when I send messages they get scrambled. And sends me error messages multiple times a day. I would recommend a different one to use.
i want to love this app. xmpp is good but apps are lacking. and this one has potential. but some frustrations: - often crashes on startup or hangs with a white screen - no search? - it’s clunky to get to your contact list - there isn’t much differentiation between users in group chats so it’s hard to see who wrote what at first glance. - i would like to customize colors and chat room icons pluses: - honors system default font size - notifications work - messages are sent and received reliably - open source i really hope there are updates in the future!
Encrypted, easy to use, and in today's subscription plan world full functionality and a donate button. This app should be your go to for xmpp
opensource and supports jabber! in new version (4.3.0) messages keep disappearing and appearing - difficult to chat (using iphone x)
You guys have been marvelous really! I love Chat but this latest update crashes constantly! The biggest problem Is when I scroll back through my texts and in the middle of that the whole thing crashes! What gives?
App used to work, but no longer. It automatically crashes upon opening when it is about to ask for my passphrase. I just deleted this junk.
Do not trust it
Hands down, best client.
I am a big fan of Signal. It's my go-to...however it sufferers from cross-platform support. This app brings a secure XMPP client to iOS.
The notifications never come through. It's hard to see the point of a messenger without working notifications.
The app is working great. The OMEMO implementation is easy to use. Sadly, there's still no support for sending photos to Conversations.im users via mod_http_upload.
Subj says it all. It can connect through tor without any extra tweaks and external stuff or apps. And it is free!
Bit tricky to setup encryption, but thats also due to the other end point. No app crashes after 6m of use.
ChatSecure is supposed to send a warning after 9 minutes that you'll be disconnected unless you open it within a minute, but it doesn't send it to me. There's a push notification issue that the app recognizes, but then just links me to some long documentation on XEP-0357, and doesn't explain how to make it work. So the app is effectively useless for me.
The app initially will connect to the hipchat server but after closing and reopening the connection always fails with a xml syntax validation failure (for the connection that was just working) Additionally it does not support groups / rooms and will only work (he first time it connects) to send 1:1 messages :-/
No background support makes this app essentially useless.
Confused about setting up ID on my iPad. Do I need an actual email address as my ID? How does the auto generated ID work? I'm giving this 5 stars even though I'm not sure how it works because I believe in what you're trying to do, protect our privacy. Thanks!
